Project ‘Climate Change, Old Basra Traditional Architecture, and Community Socio-Environmental Resilience’ in Old Basra, Iraq

Successful fieldwork trip to Old Basra, Iraq, as part of the Nahrein Network-funded project titled “Climate Change, Old Basra Traditional Architecture, and Community Socio-Environmental Resilience.” Formed by members of the University of Basrah and the University of Salerno, the team employed advanced digital tools—such as drones, 3D laser scanning, and 360-degree photogrammetry—to document historic shanasheel houses and other heritage sites. This initiative not only preserved invaluable architectural details but also provided hands-on training for local students and alumni, fostering future collaborations and enhancing community resilience.
